Hey guys
Just wondering if everyone could help us out.
we would like to know the answers to these following questions
1) Gundog/ Dog sports
2) age of dog
3) how often do you free walk your dog (how many time per week, per day and duration of time out
4) how often do you purely train your dog (how many times per week, per day and duration of time out with them
5) how many different locations do you take your dog to per week
There is no right or wrong answer to this but it really Will help the trainers out the more everyone participates with guidance and creating plans for you individually and in groups.
thank you as always everyone
1) Pet gundog 2). 9.5 months 3) Our daily walks out are around 45 mins & comprise of loose lead walking for about 10 mins (5mins there & 5 mins back) to fields near our house with the remainder of time being a mix of off lead / recall , some retrieves other bits we’ve learnt in class like turn whistle. If she doesn’t recall she goes back on a longline or lead for the remainder of the walk. If there are other dogs she gets recalled and goes on lead. She might get a short sniffy walk around the block in the evening or lunchtime too OR training in the garden. Either being about10-15 mins. 4) as per answer above. Training of some form is daily. Then Sunday group session. 5) We have around 5 different routes we can take. If we go somewhere new, the most she can hope for is to be walked on the longline (held) as it takes a good few times at the location to be confident enough to let her off fully. We only have about 3 areas for that.- We try and mix it up & a couple of the walks are near the school for picking up the kids. She also has to learn to sit nicely in the car whilst we wait down to come out.
1. Pet gun dog 2. 2 years 3. Bonnie gets 1-2 free walks per day. Usually a few hours daily depending on the walk we do. She's normally off lead unless we cross roads or over farm land etc. 4. We train as we go along alot of the time.. recall, heel work, steadiness when bikes/other dogs are approaching.. sometimes take the dummy/ball and have a retrieve in the woods. 5. We have 3 favourite local walks that we swap around and then add in different ones if we are both off.. usually a good hike in Derbyshire or somewhere.
1. Dog sports 2. 20 months 3. Lead walk most days, approx 30 to 40 mins. Free walk once a week at the end of the lead walk. Usually off lead for about 20 mins. 4. Training about 15 mins a day in the house or the garden 5. Pretty much same walking route with off lead on the same field. Need some new location ideas 😊
1- dog sports 2- 3 this coming Sunday 3- Everyday for about 30mins, alt days of on lead/off lead running (no walk on Sunday's, training only then rest day) 4 - 20mins per day (not Sunday's as at training) 5 - Only Spittal park atm, Freddie's a nightmare on street walks & new locations!!
-Wallace, Gundog -10 months -Free walk 5-10 mins once a day -Train 3-4 days a week an hour at a time -Aim to try two new places a week but making more effort to visit more places with people and dogs
1- gun dog 2- 25 months 3- walk every day some are just 10 mins round the block. Next Day off if done hard training 4- train hard at least twice a week 1 hour plus 5- when he was small about 4 different places per week
1) Gundog 2) 2 years 3) Don't freewalk very often maybe few times a month, except when on holiday then more often. Normally canicross x2 per week. He gets 1 rest day a week when he will not go out atall. 4) Training approx 1 hour once a day, 5 days per week ( much shorter if he's been for a run in the morning). Atleast 60% of this is heelwork to where ever we're training. Also do little 5 mins throughout the day in the house/garden sits, holds, heelwork 5) Most often same country park but we've been trying to go to different locations within it each time. Also road walk, trips to shop etc. Sometimes different places at weekends.
1). Gundog x2 2) Age 2.5 and 4 3) Free walk off lead once a day with heel, stop whistle and recall on the walk. Approx. 1hr x 3 times /week together and the same individually 4). Lead road walking incorporating sits, directional changes 2x daily Approx 40 mins. Afternoon training is a mix of obedience hunting, retrieving. 1 day /week is spent on distance training, in preparation for a charity event. 5) 4 - 6 different places / week
Millie 1 year old off lead with Adrian first thing and last thing at night for about 15 minutes. Then with me twice or more for about 15 minutes training which involves being off lead sits and heels and some dummy work try to mix it up but I know I need to mix locations up as tend to use same field when I could be going in the woods etc
Smokey is a 14 month springer spaniel gundog free walk maybe twice a month he is trained on average 5 times a week for 30 minutes sometimes longer he has approx 8 different locations maybe more he is taken somewhere different everytime
1) dog sports 2) 16 months 3) free walk on longline in public field 2-3/ week, hour each time. Road walk 2-3 per week 30-60 mins each. Free running in largish garden - more intensive training and playing as he gets less distracted. 2-3/week 30-60 mins. Basically aim for at least one of above per day. 4) training mainly on walks or around house - no specific sessions although garden sessions are mainly training. 5) mainly 2 or 3 but trying to take him to son’s cricket/football matches, now they are back on and walk him round there for some variation
Ruby gundog 13 months. She trains with Scott most days for half an hour at lunch. Now the nights are lighter I can take her out after work if there is time. She gets longer training sessions with me at the weekend and on Mondays when I'm off. We are poor at going to new places but try to mix up the areas on the farm we use, fields vs woodland etc (I will make a conscious effort to get out and about more). We rarely free walk at the moment as she can begin ranging too far, on longer walks we do a mix of on and off lead if she starts to range too far she is put back on the lead or made to walk at heel.
1). Gundog 2) Age 2.5yrs 3) We free walk off lead once a week but still train heel, stop whistle and touch (check in) on the walk. Approx. 1hr 4). We on lead road walk including sits, pivots 5 times a week in the mornings with 2 rest mornings. Approx 35 mins. Afternoon training is a mix of obedience hunting, retrieving 4 times a week and 2 rest afternoons. Approx 1hr. Do things like sit while making a cup of tea etc throughout the day 5) Go to approx 8 different places per week
Millie Gundog age 1yr old . She’s off lead twice a day but that’s with Adrian for about 15 minutes. I do about 15 minutes twice a day , location I know I need to work at this as I tend to go to same field
